Re: Hay Testing Confusion
I am very interested in hearing the answer to this too. My last batch of hay (only have 2 days left of it) tested at NSC = 13.72 (WSC 13.5 + starch .2). But the ESC = starch was 7.6 (ESC 7.4 +

Hay Testing Confusion
I'm relatively new to this list, but I've been dealing with IR horses for about 10 years. Several years ago I did extensive private consultations with Dr. Kellon to set up a diet and supplement plan

Great news!
I work really closely with my hay supplier and he has made changes in how he manages and harvests the crop just for low(er) sugar (ESC) and starch content, decent but not excessive

Marianne,
It is possible that she means just what she says--that hay #1 is actually 9.9 percent simple sugar.
Add to that the starch content of the hay, and that puts you over 10%.

Exercise question
I am getting some conflicting advise re: exercising my gelding.
I know he foundered 5-6 months ago (5 degrees in RF, very slight in LF) by looking at where the founder rings and change in hoof shape

Hi Jennifer,

Hi all,
I know you guys recommend Cornell for bloodwork, but we are in CA and my vet uses UC Davis. Has anybody used them, and do you know if they have the same type of grouped test for IR/cushings
