I had a 26 yr. Old cushings gelding with melanomas that did this... I
treated him for ulcers for a day or two and it helped him eat, but he still
had to be "palpated" to defecate(and poop was normal

I've got an antique hanging balance-beam scale, it does the trick, as it goes up to 100# without additional counterweighting.

update on Henry
Henry was initially dx with cushings in July 2006- 8 years old at
that time, with an ACTH of 59.1 on 7/27/06. Thyroid levels were
normal. He was overweight and had a cresty neck and some fat

You don't weight he entire bale. Just what you intend to feed. A #50 scale is more than adequate. Peanut eats 20 pounds of hay a day, in 3 meals. Then it gets soaked/rinsed. It's not about the

Well that depends on the type of hay and your farmers' preference. If you are going to soak hay, you want a flake that you can pick up wet! Water is heavy.

buy it because i thought that the hay bales may weigh more than that(?).

Thats grrreat that your Cushings mare is doing so well! The best thing to add weight would be, more low nsc hay, r/s/r beet pulp, or the ODTB cubes or Blue Seal Carb Guard.

thryoid glands huge &Colic &EC
The eating thing could be that the thyroid glands are as big as
softballs and the vet doesn't want to remove them. The whole eating
behavior is getting worse it takes him longer to eat his pellets
