I'm not sure if I have uploaded my case study properly. Do I need to ask a specific question to get advice or is advice offered on case studies? My Horse has severe founder in all 4 feet so hoping on advice regarding management and advice on trimming.

Re: Calling UK members - can you buy PhytoQuench pellets in the UK?

Thanks Martha. So it’s the Devil’s Claw that is the key ingredient? I noticed that the PhytoQuench pellets contain various other ingredients too.

Hi Kandace Have you tried the The Mill Store in Okotoks? They usually stock them. I have had great success there.

Re: Calling UK members - can you buy PhytoQuench pellets in the UK?
Jenny, Devil’s Claw is becoming more popular for human use as well so you might be able to find it in its pure form. I searched for ‘Devils Claw bulk UK’ on Google and a few options came up. You might bring up more results omitting ‘bulk’.

Re: IR mare off feed - meds
Sherry and Jaini,
No I hadn't been told about rinsing her mouth. I have been using a 60CC syringe, how much or many would be sufficient rinse? I left the ball with the pergolide in it with the balance of her beet pulp, she did clean it up eventually. I also heard back from Mad Barn about taste and slow intro, which is what I have been doing so maybe we will get there soon. I find it very interesting that Jaini, you in Smithers, and Kirsten in Kitimat can get Ontario Dehy cubes where as I near Calgary cannot. Nearest place is a nine, ten hour return trip. -- Kandace K Rocky Mountains, Alberta, Oct 2 https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Kandace%20J%20and%20K https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory?album?id=259062

Re: Lost NANRIC Ultimate
Yes and wrapped with bandage from hoof to canon bone. All these were tried while she was in clinic. They have to think she steps on the back of it when she gets up from laying down.
As I mentioned in reply to Dr. Kellin, I will be discussing this today with vet and make sure it never has to be this long a problem. -- Kandace K Rocky Mountains, Alberta, Oct 2 https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Kandace%20J%20and%20K https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory?album?id=259062

Feedback on Trim request from Lavinia
Hello,
I had requested some feedback on Riosa’s trim from Lavinia to see if I should be adjusting anything after I had the rads taken back in Dec. I have uploaded recent pics which will be outdated soon as will be doing another trim right away so would really like to know if anything needs to be adjusted. Thanks. -- Heather August 5, 2017, Brandon, Manitoba, Canada Riosa https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=8819 Case History

Calling UK members - can you buy PhytoQuench pellets in the UK?
jenny.comish@...
Hi all,
I’m a new member and have been recommended to get my pony off Danilon and onto Uckele Equine’s PhytoQuench pellets, but it doesn’t appear they are available in the UK. Am I right about this? If so, please can anyone make recommendations for other products that will be a good alternative? My main objective is pain relief. I am presuming products with Devil’s Claw are what I’m after. This was suggested to me but it contains MSM so may not be ideal: https://www.equineanswers.co.uk/bute-substitute-powder/p25 Thanks very much. 😊 Jenny -- Jenny Comish England, UK Dewi Case History: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Jenny%20Dewi Dewi Photos: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=257833

Re: FAO Lavinia - Please can I have some trim advice?
jenny.comish@...
Thank you Lavinia. I have been asking the farrier why he keeps taking bits off the sole and he says ‘his soles are compacted’. He is renowned in our area for being a very knowledgeable farrier but I am not so convinced! Thanks so much for saying you will take a look. It is such a relief to get some real help.

Re: FAO Lavinia - Please can I have some trim advice?
Lavinia Fiscaletti
Hi Jenny,
I took a quick look. The farrier needs to leave his soles completely alone as there is NOTHING there to pare away. Toes need to come back a lot to get the breakover into the proper position. I can be more specific a bit later this week but I'm buried at the moment. -- Lavinia, George Too, Calvin (PPID) and Dinky (PPID/IR) Nappi, George and Dante Over the Bridge Jan 05, RI Moderator ECIR

Re: Help with assessing Hoof Pics Lavinia 2ND TRY
Lavinia Fiscaletti
Hi Marsha,
Thanks for bumping this up. I'll take more of a look tomorrow. His hind end soreness is likely secondary to the front end because he is overloading the hind end in an effort to help his fronts. -- Lavinia, George Too, Calvin (PPID) and Dinky (PPID/IR) Nappi, George and Dante Over the Bridge Jan 05, RI Moderator ECIR

Re: New member. Sore pony
Thanks so much for this info! Because I have to haul all of the water for our farm it would be very difficult to soak hay (also we get pretty chilly temperatures up here). But the compressed Low sugar hay sounds like a good plan. I will look into getting this hay!!! And about the straw. We offer free feed straw at all times to replace their pasture option in summer. They still get their hay feedings, but if they eat it up quickly then they have something to munch till next meal. my little guy isn’t much of a food hog and normally has hay left over between meals. --

Re: Mad Barn - quality control
HI, Bobbie! Shoot, I wish I got paid for recommending products!!!!! What does happen all the time is that glossy brochures arrive on the vets' desks, extolling the benefits of a product or drug. I have seen with drug and nutritional supplements that the manufacturer will provide discounts to various vet suppliers directly, so that we often get info that "if you buy 2 (or whatever) of these, you will get a discount, plus some textbooks, plus some swag" For most of us, that financial incentive will only work if you are dealing with two similar, FDA or CFIA approved drugs, that you use a lot of (pain relievers in dogs, for example). Now, I only owned a teensy vet clinic, and now only work part-time since selling the clinic. Drug and supplement reps never got much of a hearing because I was too busy and didn't have a dedicated practice manager. For some of the really big vet clinics, it is entirely possible that there would be benefits to recommending a product that the rep has convinced the practice manager is actually a good product.

Re: New Member with Insulin Resistant Cushing’s Mare
Hello Sheila,
I'm also live in Michigan, over on the west side of the state. I just wanted to mention that soy HULL pellets are a safe feed for IR horses. I do suggest putting a small amount of hot water on the pellets and they will crumble apart. The pellets are a fairly common additive to numerous mixed animal feeds and they work well as a carrier for minerals. They are very low cost, around $8 per 50 lb. They store really well as long as you keep them dry. I bought soyhull pellets at the Johnston Elevator feed mill in Clare, MI. I did add Brewers Yeast to my horse's mix as a taste tempter and it has some benefits. -- Bonnie Snodgrass 07-2017 ECIR Group Primary Response White Cloud, Michigan, USA
