Re: top line,
Could you post a few photos from different angles? Topline is about 50% muscle and 50% fat. Unless the tips of her spine are protruding up higher than the muscle on either side of them, her muscling is normal.

Just a reminder here that we do NOT want your ESC + starch number. This poll wants to know WSC + starch, which is NSC.

Re: Thinking about possible fire evacuation logistics/how quickly do ACTH levels if pergolide can't be given for a few days?
AnnCN
Thank you Dr Kellon and Cass. This is very helpful. Much appreciated.
And I'll look for your evacuation list Cass. Thanks for pointing that out! Yes, it's stressful, especially when you have large animals that you can't just throw in a car on a minute's notice. We don't have our own truck and trailer, so there's that complication too which is why I moved them earlier this week - my friend was passing by with space in her trailer and open paddocks at her other barn. Re: Cornell insulin over 200
The 200 uIU/mL is the upper limit of the assay they started using a few years ago so to get an actual number the sample has to be diluted when it's high - e.g. dilute in half then double the result you get, etc. I don't know who made the decision to just report greater than 200 when it's high but the director did tell me they will do the extra work to get an actual number if requested.

Yes, his diet can be loosened up. If you can locate someone with a thermography unit it would be very helpful to scan his tendons after turnout.

There are individual variations but ACTH starts to rise again within 4 days.

Re: Thinking about possible fire evacuation logistics/how quickly do ACTH levels if pergolide can't be given for a few days?
Ann, I'm sorry you have to make these plans. When I had to evacuate in 2017 and forgot to pack the pergolide, my mare managed without incident for the day and a half it took to track down her meds. She wasn't on a high dose at the time, only 1 ½ Prascend, having been diagnosed only 6 months earlier. That may be a critical difference with your horse.
I did post about my evacuation plans on ECHorsekeeping. I find that lists help when I'm stressed and scared. https://ecir.groups.io/g/Horsekeeping/message/27278 -- Cass, Sonoma Co., CA 2012 ECIR Group Moderator Cayuse and Diamond Case History Folder Cayuse Photos Diamond Photos |

Is this something new? I Never liked not knowing when Cornell showed over 200, as they always did for jesse. I did send this to my vet to let him now

Thinking about possible fire evacuation logistics/how quickly do ACTH levels if pergolide can't be given for a few days?
AnnCN
Hello -
There is a big forest fire about 30 miles East of the Eugene/Springfield area and I'm working on our Plan B evacuation plans. (We already moved them once yesterday to get them closer to town and away from the nearest Level 1 evacuation zone.) If we end up needing to evacuate them again (and/or if my family needs to evacuate) I am preparing for the possibility that I may not be able to ensure that Lolly gets her 1.5 tabs of Prascend every day. I don't know what a care set up might be and she is fussy about taking it, so we dissolve it in water and syringe it into her mouth, and it's possible that that may be too much to ask whatever kind soul would be housing them during this crazy time to do. I just don't know. Does anyone know how quickly ACTH levels rise if pergolide is not given temporarily? Is it Just trying to figure out what her "to go bag" should include and look like. Thanks, and please hope it rains here soon!
