Frosty
Pamela Bramell
Thank you to this group that gave me the knowledge to take this wonderful 32 year old pony into my life. Here is my tribute to him. Much loved and free from the constraints of a body that contained his lovely spirit. Today is the day I helped my beloved gelding Frosty cross over the bridge. I know a lot about his life before coming to live with me. He lived it grandly. A fine old Southern Gentleman appy pony. Because of that I wanted to give him his dignity in death as well. I had talked to Josie about it. She came to me a day or so later and said that she had a dream. Jesus was standing next to God and Frosty was running all around. Frosty ran up to Jesus and Jesus put his arm around Frosty. Jesus looked at Josie and told her "don't be afraid, brighter days are coming." So I knew it was okay to let this fine old southern gentleman go before something ugly happened and put a stain on his fabulous life. Frosty, the blind old guy, gave me the confidence to ride again. We had fun as I taught him "watch your feet", "up Frosty", "down Frosty". Those were the cues I taught this beloved blind guy so that we could ride safely together. When the terrain would change, I would give him the appropriate cues. He learned them quickly, but he was sharp like that. I would throw Josie up on him and the grand old man would take his job seriously. That job was to take care of this precious cargo on his back. Good man Frosty! It's been a little over 4 years since he came to us, I love that boy. Thanks to Dr. Wolfe for making the hardest of situations so much easier. In the days leading up to this day I just kept saying "I trust you God, I trust you." And with that, the whole process was very peaceful and when Frosty laid down his final time his mane looks as if he is running in the wind! Run in Peace my beloved man, because I know resting is not in your nature! See you at the bridge my lovely blind cushings sweet southern old gentleman. Pam in Va 12/10 Frosty (over the bridge) Story, Shaqiraj and the lovely Buttercup

I put jasper on the Emergency diet as of this afternoon, has two hay nets stuffed with soaked hay. Am i doing the right thing here or not?? I know wonder if the treats aren't the trigger of his problems? and had nothing to do with ODTB cubes. Re: again can't delete my old history
ThePitchforkPrincess@...
This is not a reprimand as we all know how difficult getting used to new screens and technology can be, but I must remind members that when updating a case history, except in the case of an emergency, there should only ever be a single copy of a case history: When you update, you add TO the same document.
It not only saves the member time and effort re-typing but it effects the speed and quality of the help you receive. Volunteers need to see the whole timeline of ACTH results, feed changes, blood work, exercise changes, medical history, etc in one place. This cannot be properly done if they have to compare entries in different documents. Please, for your horse's sake, take the time to read the instructions. They are there to help both you, the volunteers and ultimately your equine. Understanding how things work will save you time as well as speed up the process of getting your equine the best possible help. You can access the instructions and help documents here in the main ECIR files: or here in ECHistory8: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/echistory8/files/%20%201-INSTRUCTIONS%20AND%20CH%20TEMPLATE/ There are instructions on how to fill out, upload, download, what goes where (documents in folders pictures in photo albums). Julia, please know this isn't about you - you are, as Nancy said, among 1000s. This is why the help and instruction documents were made. - LeeAnne, Newmarket, Ontario ECIR Archivist 03/2004

Re: Wedgewood Pharmacy
Hi Julia,
Instead of waiting for the compounded version, maybe you could get a box of Prascend from your vet. Its tedious, but not impossible, to split the tablets into 0.5mg (what I started with) or even 0.25mg. That way you could start as soon as you get the Prascend. Just a thought; I know youre anxious to get things rolling. Luckily youre not staring at astronomically high IR numbers from Cornell, so you can relax...a tiny bit :)) We are here for you! I know its overwhelming and very easy to make yourself crazy...but you will be on the other side of the chaos & agony eventually. Just stay the course; Ive survived two IRs (one very difficult PPID) who tag team their crises so Im always tweaking one's DDTE or the other...but seeing them feel better and downright prosper and bloom into better, healthier horses, is so so worth all the trouble! You'll get there! Kerry in NY Sept 2014

Re: again can't delete my old history
You did not see them in your folder b/c you loaded them to the general file area and they were waaayyyyy down at the bottom of the whole list of folders, sitting by themselves. I have removed them.
I also removed all but Luxy test results Aug 2015 and what you had previously loaded on august 24. When you load something, take care to make sure you are going into your folder. Learning how to interact with this group and what you need to do for your horse is like learning to play an instrument well. You need to do a little every day. I know this b/c I was in exactly your spot many years ago. Hang in there. Nancy C in NH ECIR Moderator 2003 Please join us at the 2015 NO Laminitis! Re: again can't delete my old history
It is really important for every member to learn to be able to do this.
That said, I have uploaded three files that are very likely exactly the same update. Julia, please go to the link below and identify which one you want to keep by name for me. I can then delete the other two. Above all keep breathing ad keeping trying. You will get there. 1000s before you have and we know how frustrating this is. Hang in there. You can do this. Re: test results
Lavinia Fiscaletti
Hi Julia,
Here is the link to the IR calculator: http://ecirhorse.org/index.php?option=com_rsform&formId=6 Luxy is definitely PPID and needs to be on meds pronto. That ACTH is only going to continue rising into at least Oct so need to get after it. She is definitely not IR, leptin confirms that she's not IR at baseline either so your dietary routine can be a bit more flexible than a horse that is both PPID and IR. Mineral balancing her diet will help with allergy issues - it is the best investment you can make for any horse at any age so that you provide them with all the building blocks their bodies require to function optimally. Re: Short strided sole bruising & Abscesses/PQ question??
Im hoping others will chime in, but yes, Ive always just stopped everything and switched cold turkey to soaked hay when my IRs appeared in crisis. They get a little pissed but usually their appetites are raging in an insulin spike so the sulking only lasts a short while
Yes, I saw your note abt the unknown treats. Very sorry to hear that. Last year I caught my neighbors feeding raw corn on the cobs snd tomatoes(?) to my two (neighbors had "run out of carrots"). At the boarding barn where one IR lives, I had to plaster signs all over his paddock boards that say "DIABETIC HORSE -- no treats/grain/grass of any kind". The "diabetes" scares people enough that they wont give treats, whereas Ive found the polite "No Treats" signs were ignored. I dont have any experience with PQ, unfortunately. Hang in there.... Re: Short strided sole bruising & Abscesses/PQ question??
corrine haffner
Hi Kerry I can easily enough put him back on the emergency diet.of just soaked hay. Yes my concern is having diet balanced reason for ODTB cubes. The poster who said he looked good wished her IR horse was lean like jasper, that pic is dated 8-28-2015. Since that picture was taken he's dropped more weight,he is currently on 20lbs of ODTB cubes 5lbs of hay. Do i just drop ODTB cubes and go back to just soaked hay? Could also be dealing with a lyme flare up his appetite is good,so kinda doubt it. Also need input on white line being full of blood on both fronts, have up current hoof pics shows some of the blood in white line, more blood now then when pics where taken. Not sure if you saw last nights post on the kids feeding him apples & sugar cube's?? every evening unknown to me till last night when i caught them. So that could also be a big part of his becoming so sore footed and staying sore footed. Still wondering if i can up PQ to 3 scoops twice a day?,is on 2 scoops twice a day currently the 3 scoops twice a day would only be to get him through this crisis. I know i need to update CH will do that after sept 14th re test. Thank's Corrine & Jasper MN 4/2014
