WellSolve L/S feed - any thoughts?
lhoenen
Hi all!
My Cushings/IR girl is on TC low starch ... all our other horses are now on Purina feeds and I love the results - much more so than Triple Crown ... I see that Purina now has a low starch feed and I"m curious as to whether any of you have tried it, read about it, have opinions on it, etc. Thanks! Leah ... DE |

I've been feeding the Wellsolve L/S to my IR mare since I was first
able to get it back in May. She loves it and I'm satisfied that it's a good way to go. It IS, however, expensive.> Hi all! My Cushings/IR girl is on TC low starch ... all our other horses areon it, etc. |

Great! I'm glad you, and she like it. I was overwhelmed by how well
my guys did on their other feeds. With results like we've had, the price hurts a little less. Have a great day Leah --- In EquineCushings@..., "George" <hunkyoutdoorsman@...> wrote: it's a good way to go. I got a bag of WellSolve to try, was feeding Blue Seal CarbSafe (?), and my
two ponies ate it well during the switch of mixing them, got to feeding them both about 1 cup twice a day (they are little guys) and at about the dame time, when I was down to about the last quarter of the bag, they both quit eating it. Neither pony has ever not eaten feed that was not doctored with electrolytes or supplements. Matter of fact they both ate the Blue Seal with the vitamin E and electrolytes added. The Cushings pony did not eat the pergolide suspension added to feed, but she would eat it on a horse treat. Wondering if that made her quit it, but why the other pony too? At the price, I changed back to the Blue Seal. That feed is kept in the same container as the Blue Seal, so unless it has less of a shelf-life when opened, I wouldn't think it should spoil, but feeding the small amounts, I considered that, but that's why I feed it to the second pony (her daughter, also too fat but no problems so far). I use Purina products on my other 12 horses/ponies, wanted it to work, but didn't for me. I had the same effect with Ultium on a horse I tried to use that on, ate it fine at first then went off the feed, but would readily eat the old feed (Strategy). FYI--our Purina area Rep gave me a $10 off coupon to try WellSolve...you might try to get one if you're considering a try. Kazee has been on Welsolve for approximately 3 months. She gets
about a quart in the am and 1 qt. in the pm. Mix in her minerals, salt, and cinnamon. She also gets about 2# of Triple Crown Safe Starch per feeding and Bermuda hay. (I am still picking grass out of the hay.) She is getting along really great and we are riding/and or walking for exercise. So I would say give it a try. Pam and Kazee Missouri |

Hi Leah, The feed stores need to be certified to carry WellSolve and ours was certified about a month ago. My Cushings mare has been on it for three weeks, she seems to like the feed and she's doing well on it. My last order of WellSolve L/S was around $24 a bag and Strategy is about $14 for a price comparison. Another factor in the choice of WellSolve is that the nearest Triple Crown dealer is about 25 miles away and the Purina feed store is right on the route from my house to the barn. Good luck! Paul |

WellSolve W/C:
Weight control for my IR horse and an easy-keeper breed(not IR)is an ongoing concern. The IR horse was diagnosed 3 yrs ago; we have tried all the low starch and/or "lite" feeds mentioned on this list. Over the last year the TC Lite pellets consistently contained numerous whole kernels of corn along with small pieces of "trash", bits of string, etc; what is REALLY in the pellets? We switched to WellSolve W/C (weight control) 3 months ago and I am extremely pleased with the quality and my horses love it! I am using W/C because of the lower fat. This allows me to continue adding 2 Oz of Nutra-Flax, which has worked miracles for my IR horse's allergies & arthritis and my easy- keepers coat. |
