Tracking hay changes in CH

Highlighting is a good idea, Maxine, and easier than moving things around for me. I'm not sure it's easier for the reader. It's nice to have everything in one eye, if you know what I mean.

Hi Cass
I have the same issue with feeds in the case history as it is definitely a 'moving feast'. When I update I just note if I've stopped a feed or changed a feed, and if there is a major change in hay. I highlight current ration in yellow so it is obvious at a glance. The minerals are so similar except for a smidge or two (smidge being the scientific term for 20-50mg) that I often leave them as is.

Great news on Cayuse.  Great news.

Thanks for your input too.

Hi, Nancy and LeeAnne.

Thanks for all you do, btw. For the first time ever, Cayuse's leptin tested normal and she's compensated IR. That's the CH I'm working on. It would never have happened without this group.

I asked about the CH document because I mix hays and discard feeds and supplements or feed them seasonally. Too much information can make the current ration less obvious at a glance. It's awkward to put a date span in the current form (now I'm just whining). I'd check for an updated CH form, but the idea of re-entering all that info for 2 horses makes me insane.

An example in the hay section: the amount of hay I feed shifts over the year as supply is consumed and/or I remix hays to get a better mineral balance or incorporate a new hay or the weather changes, requiring a ration increase.  Any change in hay causes changes in minerals. Tracking all of that on the CH seems like TMI. I've settled for listing the current ration any time I ask for help.

I try to keep the current info at the top of any category, discontinued items further down by cutting and pasting. Even that seems like a lot of work for busy horse owners who aren't old retired women like me.

We'll be looking into this going forward as we work out a new CH form but for now, Cass, would be great if you can keep everything.

I have a pipe dream that I 'll collect and compile hay anals from various part so the planet.  We have  a number of areas represented already, but some areas are missing.

Is there a reason you were maybe wanting to remove old bits from your folder or CH doc?  Clutter, scrolling, other?

Thanks for any input.

Hi Cass,
I believe the idea is to keep all hay analysis in the files for research purposes.  Nancy is this still the case?
Yes keep everything (feed, hay type, amounts, blood work etc) you ever entered in the case history document.  It is a record that shows what was tried and what works (or doesn't)  both in general and for the individual horse.

"Current" refers to the idea that we want to know not just what was done in the past what is currently being fed.  The support team needs to know what is currently being fed, most especially when there is an issue requiring their help with the horse.

The CH says current ration, so I assume move on when the diet moves on. I have the same question for analyzed feeds we discontinue? Keep in the CH document? Or move on to the current ration?

I believe we're supposed to leave our old hay analyses in our CH folder.

Once I've used up a supply of hay, can I delete that hay from my CH document (not the hay analysis folder)? Or do we want to track every hay ever fed?
