trh stim on 20 yr old
I will be checking Jesse's labs to cornell in about a month.
My vet is suggesting a trh stim test on my other horse who is 20 yr old freisian gelding. vet says given horses age and workload and current problem.. he suggests trh test.. His current symptom is that his windpuffs show enlarged suspensory ligament branches fronts 1.1x 1.2 rears 1.89x 1.48 and 1.63 x 1.36. Interestingly.. the lameness vet says to soak the teff hay and stop glucosamine... His reasoning is he has seen these problems bec teff hay is so highly stressed and some older horses cant handle the effects of glucosamine... ( I started this 3-4 months ago but not with Jesse) He is hopeful tht this will fix things.. I post this here so we all can get a trh stim test reminder.. -- should I do a trh test based on the above problems... ( no other symptoms... and I did check him 2 yrs ago and he was normal..) You will have to wait until November to do TRH stimulation because if the seasonal effect. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/j.1939-1676.2011.0712.x. Tendon and ligament problems can be early signs of PPID but glucosamine and sugar in hay has nothing to do with it.

If I don’t wait till November, does it makes sense to do the ACTH test within the next month? Or better to wait because he might be early PP ID and trh is preferred? Why is this stim test so much better than ACTH only? I know this has come up av million times and I did do a search but don’t think I came across my answer
