The recent offers to share pergolide from departed horses are kind and generous, and we are all very sorry for your losses. However, it is illegal to transfer prescription medications. Even your vet can't take them. Please don't post those offers in the future.

Twice a year the DEA holds a national drug take back day to have all pill form drugs recycled. I think the website is takebackday.dea.gov Go to the site, put in your zip code and it will give you a list of the closest collection points for you. My mare died in July from complications of cushing's and I too had left over meds to dispose of. Made for a sad day. Thank you for putting that out there, Dr. Kellon.I hesitated to make a statement as I thought perhaps state laws might be in play. When our elderly Cushings mare had to be put down a couple years ago (she rotated profoundly and virtually overnight sunk right through her soles) I had MOST of a brand new box of Prascend - I let the prescribing vet know it was available, and she found a client for whom she had already prescribed who was more than happy to take it off my hands. |
