Pergolide veil, not eating

Bonnie Eddy

Had to increase Racham's Pergolide due to elevated seasonal rise of 95 ACTH (toward end of August). from 1mg slowly titered to 2mg (part compounded + part Prascend) which she has reached the 2mg 2 weeks ago. At first she got really spooky, but now she will hardly eat since yesterday. She'll eat a little of her LMF, and ate about 1/4 of her hay last night. Today only a little LMF. She seemed alert this morning and even hungry, but ate no hay today.
I have APF on order but it won't be here until possibly Saturday. She is lethargic, although wants to cuddle.
Should I drop her dose 1/4 until the APF arrives?
Her urine output is now normal, less wet spots in her stall since reaching the 2mg. Her water intake has been on the normal side.

Thank you sincerely,

Bonnie

Oh, dear. This is one of those puzzling ones, in the sense that she does need the increase of pergolide, as not only the bloodwork but the decrease in urination since the dose was increased has shown. Add to that the worst time of year re seasonal rise. On the other hand, she does need to eat.

Check her temperature, just in case there is something else going on. If that is okay, then decrease dose by 0,25 mg and see if that helps. Also, if she seems hungry but won't eat, she may have something going on inside her mouth: ulcers, a wound, a sore tooth, etc etc.  It would be worth a vet/dentist check.

Thank you Jaini for your input.
Racham's temp is normal her mouth seems normal as much as I can see.
One thing she does seem to be accepting since last night  are the TC balance cubes, which she positively would not eat before. So I have been giving her LMF instead for a good month now. No timothy. She ate about a pound this morning, likes them dry and slowly crunches each one. My question is how much can I safely feed her this. Now it's the only thing she seems to want.
I dropped her dose this morning the 1/4.

This is so disheartening. I'm at the end of my budget,  my husband would..... if he knew all that's being spent.

Again sincerely thank you,
Bonnie

Oh, Bonnie - they do keep us working and worrying.  She can have as much cubes as she will eat,  theoretically up to 2% of her body weight. However, since she was a little fat, and the cubes are a little higher in energy and more easily digested than her hay, better keep the cubes to 1.5% of body weight, so no more than 13 pounds (hard on the budget, compared to hay, but for the short term feed them if it works).

Hang in there - hugs to you and Racham both.
