Chaste Tree Berry for PPID
A couple of months ago I started adding CTB to both my mares diets. My mini is confirmed diagnosed PPID/IR and is on pergolide, the QH mare is confirmed IR. I decided to try both on it for different reasons. The mini - to help with shedding. The QH to help with very 'mare-ish' behaviour. I have entered the mini's details in the CTB database.
The problem is neither will eat their mineral supplement ration with any amount of it in. They started off trying it with a tiny amount, but with increased amounts, they rejected it all. So I have ceased after trying for about a month. Any suggestions for a solution or an alternative that will address the symptoms I need to address? I am in Australia and am not aware of any alternatives. -- Sandra Weston Joined 6/7/2016Leeton, NSW, Australia Case Histories: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Sandra%20and%20Molly https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Sandra%20and%20Capri Molly’s Photos: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=4424 Capri's Photos: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=4441

You might try the Super Chasteberry liquid. It's cherry flavored and my mare loves it.

Hi Sandra
I started adding CTB to my PPID mare's diet this spring (she is on pergolide) to see if it helped with shedding. I have been using the James Hart tincture (marketed as "Cushy Life", I get in online from Herdz). It is expensive, but the dose is small (I use 6-7ml twice a day). I suck it into a 10ml syringe and squirt it in the side of her mouth. She doesn't seem to dislike the taste. And she has started shedding earlier than she did last year. I didn't want to use the ground berries as I suspected she would refuse to eat it in her tiny bucket feed. -- Maxine and Indy Canberra, Australia 2010 https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Maxine%20and%20Indy https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=933

Thanx Maxine - I'll give it a go. My poor mini has to endure long hot summers here in Leeton of 38 - 40 degree days (as can you in Canberra). I would really like to be able to help her - clipping the next option.

I clip as well. Did a strip clip mid-September, plan to do hunter clip end of October, possibly full clip December if the summer coat grows too thick.
