fasting vs non-fasting for IR testing

Judy and Bugsy

I'm arranging for IR testing for Bugsy.  The lab website says it should be fasting but the info on this forum and website say not to fast.  Which is correct and why?

Hi Judy,

We test non fasting, because we want the results to reflect what the horse is actually eating. Fasting results will provide lower results than are realistic, skewing the diagnosis.

If you haven't found it yet,we have a great web site.....ecirhorse.org...containing tons of info. One of my fave sections is FAQ .
