od balance cubes

LJ Friedman

When I first joined this group, I started on the OD balance cubes. Jesse quidded those cubes. So I’m thinking this is not a possible replacement.  doing an analysis of cubes versus Timothy pellets plus custom supplements that cost me three dollars per day, I’m thinking the cubes are probably less expensive? But like I said, I don’t think cubes will work for jesse???
the cubes are not pellets  . thoughts? thanks

It’s been five years since I tried the cubes. I know they were moistened,But I’ve not considered them again.

An update. It seems that Purina now purchased Triple Crown. Because of this, they will offer some sort a free trial for the products. For example a purina rep can come to my barn offer me a free trial of the cubes and move forward with that? Interestingly, it is .40 cents cheaper per day to use the balance cubes comparing that to Timothy pellets plus my ukulele custom supplements. Like I said, I do believe that jesse did not like these od cubes and quidded them as well, but I believe I’ll have the rep come out and keep you all posted.

if the rep coming to the barn interest you, I believe you call your Feed Store and ask if they are authorized Purina dealer. I believe that’s what’s required to get this done.

Can someone offer a suggestion on how to transition over if I was to make the switch? Thank you

Purina did not buy TC.  They are a distributor for TC  and make some of their products (but not the cubes).  Jesse needs to have the cubes soaked, or at least pour hot water over them before feeding.

-- Sorry for the mis information. Yes I will certainly soak the cubes as I do his pellets. Hot water will not be an option. So if that’s what you needed then that’s not gonna happen.

It doesn't have to be hot; only suggested that because it works more quickly.

Just to add this note re finding OD Timothy Balance cubes.  I contacted OD regarding distributors in the southwestern U.S. and received a prompt reply.  They suggested I try Triple Crown Naturals brand timothy balance cubes.  It is TC packaging but made by OD.

LJ, what about taking a thermos of hot water to the barn. I wouldn't think you'd need more hot water than that. It really does make the process go faster.

We are VERY lucky to have Balance Cubes. Thank You, Dr. K!
My horse has IR/ PPID and now EPM. I've tried everything to get him to take his meds, nothing worked more than a few days. Until the Balance Cubes. He LOVES them!!  And so does my jumper/hunter! And I feel good feeding them because I know how good they are for the horses. And so easy, soak with a little hot water and done. I also use them as snacks!

7:20pm

purina  is offering a  free 10 bag trial of the  balance  timothy cubes. My nutritional rep from Parina said that 10 bags is a good trial because she has seen some horses stop eating the cubes at bag five.
With that being said, if I’m switching from Timothy pellets to the Timothy balance cubes, would I be doing a partial change over like one would do with hay or a different type of pellet? 75 % old   25% new for a few days  then, 50-50,  for a few days, then 25% old and 75% new?. etc  Or go straight to the  new cubes because jesse is currently eating timothy pellets?
Reminder, I need to see if he’s going to quit these cubes. Assuming if they’re in a soupy mash it should not be a problem--

LJ, does this actually mean 10 x 50-pound bags of ODTBC for zero money? You didn't say Timothy Balance Cubes. But I don't think straight timothy comes in cubes, does it?
Really?
No strings?
That's an amazing offer .

LJ, I would still transition Jesse.  The OD hay cubes are mineral balanced so they might take some getting used to.  I noticed my horse was unsure of the taste at first, but now he loves them.

LJ,

A straight switch shouldn't be a problem but no problem with doing it slower either. I would question the claim about bag 5. Is that bag 5 of using it as a complete feed, which would be about 2 weeks? How much were those horses actually getting?  Refusal after a few weeks hasn't been the experience here over many years - almost 20 to be exact. If they are soaked enough to fall apart he shouldn't have any trouble eating them.

Link to the trial.  I'm not sure if those of us already feeding TCTBC are eligible.

I'm not sure that Triple Crown feeds qualify for that offer. They're not Purina. In any case, it is an offer for two buy one get one free coupons, very different from what LJ mentioned.

I would agree with the five bag issue not being a problem. I can only tell you what the representative stated to me. I don’t really pay  it much mind but if she wants to offer 10 bags then why not

The Purina feed challenge link is not for the balance cube product. Only items branded with Purina
