Homemade Pill Pockets to hid Prascend Tablets

I have made treats to use to hide my horse's prascend tablet.  Here's the recipe:
1 lb flaxmeal (in the baking section at the grocery store)
4 TBSP Cinnamon
1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce
2 cups hot water

Mix all together and spread evenly on a parchment paper lined cooking sheet.
Using a pizza cutter or knife, score it into squares.
Bake 350 for one hour, then let sit in the oven for another 30 minutes.
Break them apart and store in a ziplock bag in the fridge (or freezer).

They come out soft and you can easily push a prascend tablet into the treat to feed to the horse.
Warning - they smell wonderful baking in the oven but they taste pretty dry and bland (according to my husband who thought they were cookies).

I've used that recipe too.
Yes - smell great - but pretty bland in the taste department.
Glad I'm not the only one that tastes stuff like this!

I think my non-horsey-hubby is right - horse people are nuts!

These horses are challenging.  I have to switch it up quite often...Horse cookies via ECIR recipe, to peanut shells, to dried apricots, apples, carrots, celery....She can sniff the pergolide out  in almost everything.

Good luck

I used to bake these flax/cinnamon/unsweetened apple sauce treats for Omar - I thought they tasted a little bland, but he loved them and they did the trick at hiding his Prascend after everything else had failed. I made a batch of them every week. When I put my house on the market, the estate agent came round with paperwork for me to sign and said, “Oh - you’re the lady who bakes cakes for her horse.” Yup, that’s me.

Thank you Angie for sharing! They sound yummy and I can see my non horsey husband doing the same thing!

might need to give this a go with one of mine since she can sometimes not want to take her pill either!
