Hi Myriam,
It can be a challenge, and you'll get good suggestions here. But is your Case History current? I don't see that the ED is being fed, but I may have missed something. How tall is Aragon? Have you listed all your test results? I was looking for insulin numbers. Keep breathing. -- Lorna in Eastern Ontario |

Hi Myriam, Assuming you are feeding rinsed/soaked/rinsed beet pulp and adding all the other ingredients recommended for the emergency diet I would suggest taking out everything and seeing if Aragon will just eat the beet pulp. If he does than add ONE of the other ingredients in and see if he eats that. Then try just ONE of the other ingredients and see if he eats that and so on. If he eats the ingredients individually then it may be the combination he doesn't like. If he refuses one of the ingredients move on to the next. Then let us know what you find out. Also check out the "Picky Eaters Checklist" in the files for hints on taste tempters.

Hi! yes , you are right, i did forgot to write it on his case history, thank reminding me....i'm still learning to make my way on the site, i will correct this. I don't have any results for insulin. His Laminitis was diagnosed with a radio in 2017 and vet made a test for cushing only. wich was negative. A moderator on this site told me that he seems to be a IR because his cresty neck was very obvious on his side picture. The vet is coming in about a month....they don't do emergency where i live, it's too far, unless i carry him for a 8 hours road to see a vet. We made it once in 2017 when we did'nt knew what he had. I want to get ready for next visit, take good radios of his feets, and ask for the proper blood test for his condition this time.

That's what we're here for....reminders. Getting around the site will become easier with time. Promise. Ok,so if he's 14.3hh and weighs about 1300 pounds, his diet needs to be, ahem, tightened up. When you are updating your CH be sure to add the weight of hay he is getting. That will help determine what adjustments to make. I'm not sure how Aragon is being managed wrt how much space he has, whether it's just stall, or access to a field, or....? Maybe I missed this. But I noticed in your other post that you have put socks over his shod feet. If he has access to outside, those socks could deter his ability to navigate over ice ( can be slippery), so just keep an eye on that,if it fits your situation. As you said, boots can be difficult over shoes, but you could use shipping boots/wraps to keep his lower legs warm. Keep breathing. -- Lorna in Eastern Ontario |

Hi Myriam,
Thanks for adding details to Aragon's case history ! Are you adding mag ox to his emergency diet ? To help him lose weight safely we recommend feeding either 2% total feed of his ideal weight or 1.5% of his current weight , whichever is more, until his ideal weight is reached . This should help with his comfort level, too,by taking weight of those feet. -- Lorna in Eastern Ontario |

Hi! I did redo the tape, i think i was wrong the first time!! He is 1117 pounds... or could he have lose that much weight in such a little time? I will go correct it on his Case History form. For now i give him 9 kilos of hay/day... but i think iM gonna have to go down a little to 7 or 8... i will try finding hid ideal weight.
He eats in his stall, but the rest of the time, he is in a paddock of about 160 feets by 150 feets. It is flat. I did wrap hid legs with polos. I can already see some improvement... But it seems that the colder it gets, the more pain he feels. I still did'nt receive the oxyde Magnesium...i'm expecting it on monday or tuesday by mail, and the beet pulp too. -- MyriamD, Qc, Canada https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Myriam%20and%20Aragon https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=260540 |

Hi Myriam,
Do you have fleece-lined shipping boots? They would offer more warmth. If you don't have fleece-lined shipping boots,do you have cotton batting sheets,or quilts to out on before you put on the polos? That would be warmer than just polos alone. -- Lorna in Eastern Ontario |

Hi Myriam, For a weight loss program you would need to be feeding 1.5% of his current weight or 2% of his ideal weight. For a 14.3 hand horse I would think that would be about 1000lbs. 9kgs = 19.8416 so that would be fine to keep feeding him for the 1000lb goal. You just need to make sure you are weighing everything he's fed and be aware that total includes any hay as well as concentrates that he is fed each day.
