Desperately Seeking Timothy Balance Cubes in Vermont and Vicinity
rainbowfarm140
We have two senior Morgan mares who are both PPID and IR. They rely on Timothy Balance Cubes for the entire diet of "Annie" because of dental issues, and as a supplement carrier for both "Kari" and "Annie". We have just 5 bags left, and we were just told by our feed store that our shipment of balance cubes will not arrive tomorrow or this week. We are desperate to locate an immediate source and will travel just about anywhere.
Any leads or ideas are greatly appreciated. Belinda Brown Craftsbury Common, VT |

I would give Triple Crown a call - they should be able to tell you who nearby has it in stock. Or can order it. They can give you the order number too.

For Vermont, I would also try Cooperative Feed Dealers -
607-651-9078. I believe they have some dealers in VT. They carry the
Ontario Dehy bags (now temporarily in a plain white bag with the
same Lavender tag.)

Hi Belinda,
My local Vermont feed store rep hasn’t been able to get them from his suppliers either. I haven’t tried calling the people Aurelio suggested yet but have begun wondering what I might feed instead. I know someone else brought this up without a lot of response. My gut tells me to get regular timothy cubes, soak them and mix with r,s,r beet pulp, in an effort to lower the sugars and starches. They obviously won’t be balanced but I’m hoping I wouldn’t need to do that for extended periods of time. If this is way off base, please let me know. -- Martha in Vermont

He doesn’t have them in stock either (just called) but he’s going to check around and see what he can find for answers.

For what it's worth, my feed dealer here on the West Coast was out of Timothy Balance Cubes last week too. First time in years that has happened. The clerk told me they had been out for 3 weeks! Luckily I had an extra bag, so should have enough to get me through May and most of June hopefully...

In case this is helpful, the feed store in Canandaigua, NY (Finger Lakes area) where I normally purchase Timothy Balance Cubes has been out of stock for weeks. They have had the cubes on order, but week after week when Cargill delivered their order, it came without the TBC.
I called Cargill/Nutrena (800.367.4894) to inquire. They responded that this area is serviced from their Albany location, where they have been out of stock due to supply chain issues from Canada. They just received a shipment, expect to deliver to the Canandaigua store soon, and said that they would send me an email to confirm delivery to Canandaigua. While I don't know, I would hope that this has positive implications for other areas in the Northeast as well. -- Diane, Scarlet and Little Red Upstate NY Joined Nov 2012

Thank you, Diane. I hope it bodes well for us too! This is the first time we’ve ever problems getting them. I will have to stop recommending them to people west of Chicago. JK!

I got a bag at the Farmyard Store rt5 in Derby last week. They only keep a bag or two in stock as I am the only one that buys them. It did come this time in a plain poly bag with the lilac tag sewn to the bottom. Marsha in the NEK(Barton) |

Demand for some reason is unprecedented but we have made changes at the plant to accommodate the demand. Availability will continue to improve quickly. Aurelio Ontario Dehy Goderich ON Canada Aurelio Henriques Ontario Dehy Inc. On 05/11/2022 6:32 PM, Martha McSherry

Thank you, Aurelio! We recommend them often here and sometimes I wonder how you can possibly meet the increasing demand. I’m sure my feed store will be thrilled to have them back in stock again, if it means nothing else than not hearing from me asking ‘when’ again.

Hi,
I recently ordered 12 bags of TC timothy balance cubes from my supplier but only received 11 and one of them was in a plain white bag with a TC label sewn on. Glad to know I wasn't only one. Wondered if I can trust label. worried of possible a mix up and Apollo (IR/PPID) eating something he shouldn't. -- Karen B. I'm in Connecticut, and my local Agway store (feed, supplies, gardening stuff) has 120 bags of the TC Naturals Timothy Balance Cubes in stock. The store is in Danbury, CT (https://agwayct.com).They have two other CT stores in New Milford and Torrington; depending on where you are coming from, one of those might be closer. The Danbury store is right off Rte. #84. Good luck! Thanks, Donna! It never occurred to me to try Agway. I’m not going to CT to get them but we have Agway locally. We miss Duke and are sorry he’s no longer enjoying the cubes.

We miss Duke a LOT, too, and it's been just a year since he died--peacefully, thank goodness. He was 45, and thanks to ECIR, the quality of his life was superb. We were blessed to share this life for 23 years. As for Agway, as I understand it, the stores are franchises. The Danbury one actually has changed hands a few times; the new management is really superb. I think the other two in CT may be part of the same group, not sure. I'll be curious if your VT Agway carries them. -- Donna Coughlin, Robin Goodfellow and Ariel Max; Duke (5/21) and Obi (5/17) over the Rainbow Bridge CT 2009 https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Donna%20and%20Duke%20-%20Robin%20Goodfellow

Thanks for letting me know. Others on this site have also reassured me it would be okay to feed. I need to stretch my hay supply until a new hay source becomes available. Apollo's a 1600 lb draft cross so it doesn't go far. Timothy balance cubes are not available for me locally but can be special ordered from supplier 45 miles away. My farrier says he's ordered Ontario Dehy alfalfa cubes in the past from a distributor in Illinois. Would you know who that would be and if they have ODTB cubes available? Hoping there might be a discount if I buy pallet at a time.
