Dr Kellpn-  So, would I be correct in thinking colbalt can help reduce or avoid ulcers?  Or am I just hoping?

Thank you for the info on cobalt, I suppose that is why it is offered so for the horses.  I will continue to have both available for my horse to choose from and include iodized table salt with her feed.

Kandace,

If they say there is no iron, you can believe them. The blocks with iron are a deep reddish brown, not pink. Iodized table salt typically won't have enough so definitely use iodized. Horses don't need cobalt but the gut organisms do and use it to produce vitamin B-12.

Good morning all,
This question is about salt.  I have attached a link to a brochure from Canadian Agri block, which sells a few different block products as well as loose salt with Iodine.  I have seen this salt and it has a pinkish tinge though an inquiry to dealer and company assured me there was no iron in it, as the brochure also claims (Common Salt, Iodized salt, cobalt Iodized salt)  They told me that salt that was pure white would have been bleached.  I give about two tbsp daily of iodized table salt with feed but my horse continues to access the salt blocks that are available.  Seems to go back and forth between plain white block and cobalt block which is the one that is typical to find in my area as to preference.

I am trying to get more salt blocks (just salt) but saw something about red coloured blocks having minerals including iron which gave the reddish colour.  If they say there is no iron but blocks and loose are pink am I to disbelieve it?
