Safe treats and recipes
Could someone please direct me to where I can find a list of safe treats and treat recipes?
Thanks. -- - Erin June 2022, Aldie, VA Darla 2009 15.2H Draft-x Mare

Hi Erin
Safe treats list is here: https://www.ecirhorse.org/assets/documents/ECIR-Safe-Treats.pdf A couple of safe treat recipes are found in our files. I searched on "cookies" https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/filessearch?p=name%2C%2C%2C100%2C1%2C0%2C0&q=cookies SIDE BAR: Nancy's Salt Cookies (that's me) can be made without the salt to be just a treat. -- Nancy C in NH ECIR Moderator 2003 ECIR Group Inc. Are broccoli and cauliflower trimmings safe for IR horses? Why not cabbage, as in small amounts of trimmings?

Starshine Ranch
I'm sure someone else can answer this better than me but I would say no on all three because they tend to cause gas.

Linda, I've read that somewhere re: causing gas but I have always given my horses the trimmings off those vegetables but in very small amounts at one time.

Hi Joy,
I think "small amounts" is the operative word here. I'm very cautious about things that can cause gas since one of my horses is very prone to gas colic. I tried feeding celery and the donkeys and my other horse love it... but the one I most wanted to give it to (the gassy one) won't touch it... I thought it would be a nice safe treat since she can't have carrots. go figure! -- Linda in Grass Valley, CA 2020 Midnight and Ostara https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Linda%20Midnight%20OStara |
