Hi Daisy,

Is this Tiko or another horse?  If it's Tiko we would need you to post pictures of his feet to be able to comment but have you treated him for Thrush, even if you think it's not related?  What has your farrier advised?

Need to see pictures of the current trim but generally, those cracks indicate that his heels are run under. The frogs then get pulled down and under as they follow the rest of the foot running forward and they start to split up into the sensitive tissues above as the foot isn't designed to stand on it's heel bulbs.

The fix is to get the trim corrected so the heels stand back up and the entire hoof capsule moves back under the horse.

HI Daisy,

Thanks for adding some recent photos. I deleted all the duplicates.

On the fronts, there is too much foot overall. That's making his underrun heels worse, which is creating stress on the overgrown frogs, causing them to split up into the sensitive tissues of the heel bulbs. Because the branches of the shoes end so far forward, there is added stress on the walls in the heels, causing them to split as well. Toes also remain too far forward. Basically, his trim has deteriorated since last year.

Without a complete set of hoof photos, it's impossible to be more specific as photos of just the cracks don't provide enough information about the (im)balances going on in the rest of the hoof.
