How to say “Thank-you!” Good works!! — July CLARIFICATION

Nancy C

I closed down the other thread on this wonderful news to start a new one only to re-direct our efforts a bit. Thanks for your understanding.

By now those of you have previously nominated Dr Kellon have received a thank-you from AAEP and a note stating she has been selected as a PLACE winner for June. This is so very exciting and so very deserved. As outlined in their email AAEP says:

"As the recipient of this honor, Dr. Kellon is now eligible for the Good Works for Horses grand prize, which will be decided by our judges and announced during the month of September. No further nominations for Dr. Kellon are necessary at this point."

Several of us contacted AAEP to ask them if folks who still wanted to vote could do so. The short answer was "Yes, they can."

As I said earlier, I'm pretty sure this is not a horse race but a judged review of the profiles of deserving nominated vets. I have nothing to base this on but past experience in similar endeavors. My guess is judges will take the merits of the case for each and decide who is the top vet.

If you feel you have something you wish to add to this endeavor, AAEP has said anyone can certainly send in a nomination. I would encourage anyone who has not previously voted, and wishes to add their voice to the conversation with AAEP, to absolutely do so!

https://aaep.org/good-works-nomination

I would also encourage you to thank them once the nominations are made public on social media. We will keep you posted.

Thank you to all of you for being there to support this fun endeavor!!!

I went to fill out the nomination and it asked for information that I do not have:  Dr. Kellon’s address, email address and phone number.  If you could provide that info, I will get back to filling out the nomination form.

thanks,

Kathy graves

Hello, I’m
Trying to fill in the form but it’s asking for the nominee’s email address & phone number. What should I put in these fields as I don’t know them?
Many thanks

Received, all I can say is that I really hope Dr. K wins the grand prize, she absolutely deserves it. Don´t know of anyone who deserves it more. It is just something that has to happen.

Joan Losee

Thank you Nancy, for this thread. I continue to be grateful to all here for many reasons. This has been added to this endeavor at AAEP.

"Dr Kellon has been a remarkable source of information for people like myself that enjoy our horses and Know when something is not quite right, even when our vet tells us "nothing to worry about". That was over 10 years ago when it took 3 different vets to evaluate my horse and diagnosis Equine Cushings. The original yahoo group and Dr Kellon personally guided myself and many others to help our companions to a better quality of life. That was then, and today so much has changed in the understanding of PPID, laminitis and EMS, thanks to many. Once again, I am grateful for her continued work and the others with the ECIR group who have also tirelessly contributed to educating horse owners to better provide for their "at risk" horses. Because of wisdom found ten years ago I have been able to provide a stable diet for my paso finos. My then apparently unaffected youngster, now at 23yrs, diagnosed with both EMS and PPID today, has so far been spared laminitis, as a result of better equine management practices, and better diet from knowledgably selected forage and better choices for balancers. This is one small reason for my nomination of Dr. Kellon. As you are aware, her influence in your community of American Equine Practitioners has been huge. Her voice to the equine enthusiast is gratefully received knowing it has been backed by current scientific study."

Gratefully,
Joan Losee
and Carmina (now over the rainbow bridge)
and Emiliano the youngster, now 23 and active/fit
