APF long term

Patricia Evans

I'm sure this question has been answered before, but when I put in a search for APF, I came up with over 6, 000 responses. I also tried APF long term, but came up with too many to read, also, so I'm sorry to ask again. I would like to know if APF can be used on a maintenance basis like J herb is, in place of J herb. My mare has been on J herb for years but seems to do better on APF. I've used APF in the past for increases in her pergolide, but when I go back to the J herb after she adapts to her new dose, she seems to not feel as well, so I would like to keep her on the APF if it wouldn't cause any problems.

My mare did better on APF so I used it until the day she died.  For some reason her insulin was lower on APF.

I use APF daily, all the time too and I increase to a second dose when I titrate pergolide up.  I think Vinnie does better while on it as well.

Yes, some people choose to use it long-term for the same reason.

Just a search hint: I like to start most searches with "posterid:58231" if I'm looking for Dr Kellon's opinion and want to filter out all the welcome messages that mention common search words.  I remember her saying long-term APF is fine, so I went looking for that message.  I searched "posterid:58231 +APF +long" and the 8th message down the list said "APF can be given indefinitely but most people end up stopping it shortly after the target dose is reached."

Hi Kirsten,

Can you tell me where you got the poster id number? Excuse my lack of knowledge but I didn't see where to find that number to be able to use it in a search?

Find any message written by Dr Kellon.  Below the message next to the Reply and Like buttons, there is a More button.  Click on it and select "All Messages Posted by this Member".  It will take you to a list of all her posts and at the top of the screen in the Search box window will be her poster ID.  Leave it there and use a "+" symbol to add your search term.
