Metformin Rx - Source in US?

Vet has agreed to give us Rx to try while we work to move horses to dry lot; her pharmacy (supported by MyVetStore) doesn't carry it unfortunately. Where do you all in the US purchase your metformin? |

My vet ordered it through this pharmacy. They are in Nebraska.

I think you can get it with a prescription, from your local drug store pharmacy, Jen.

I get mine at a Costco Pharmacy and it is cheapest I've found, but I think Lavinia had an online pharmacy that had a really good price. I can't seem to find it though...

Metformin is a human drug. There is no approved veterinary form. All you need is a prescription and you can get it from any pharmacy.

It is true that it is available many places. However, the first RX my vet called in for me at a large chain pharmacy an hour north of me cost $120 and I now get it at Costco anywhere from $22 to $27 for 500 1,000mg pills!!! I nearly fainted when I went to pick up that first prescription and it was so expensive! My vet was shocked too, as she sells it for $45 for the same amount.

Some pharmacies these days will automatically apply any of the available discount programs, like GoodRx. Others don't. You have to shop around.
