ppid banamine used prophylactic for vaccines

LJ, I’ve heard the same advice with respect to people so, if I get a flu vaccination, I wait until several hours after the vaccination to take any ibuprofen.  Sometimes that’s the next day and sometimes I just skip it.  Same with Covid.  You want your body to mount an appropriate immune response before tempering it.  I am not an MD, a vet, nor do I have Cass’s titer testing experience but it makes sense to me, a scientifically thinking person.

LJ, one of the things about allergic reactions is that past freedom from a reaction isn't a complete assurance there will never be a future reaction. That's not to say banamine needs to be given in every case, but I do understand the practice in a big barn. I can see a subsequent fever being missed until the horse stops eating. I've missed a fever myself after I gave a single dose of banamine with a vaccination and didn't repeat it the next day until I realized she was throwing off heat like an open oven.

As for the theoretical decrease in immunity, for about 4 or 5 years, I've been giving banamine and benadryl at the time of core vaccinations to my vaccine reactor. Subsequent titers have measured plenty of antibodies for those disease that have titers available. JME, nothing more.

I forgot to post the study that prompted me questioning the use of banamine etc alongside vaccines

My vet always gives ban amine alongside a vaccination. After reading the study, I’m not sure why? If there are no reactions, why bother with it? Also, if your horse has a reaction for a few days for example a flu rhino vaccine, and you’re not able to change the manufacturer, would banamine be helpful at that time? Or better to wait to see if reaction occurs ?
