I'm glad he is doing better. I can certainly see why you might want to keep things as they are as a result.
Try a search just on "posterid:58231 +B12" and see if that gives you any more info. I was struck by Dr Kellon's discussion of B12 deficiency really being about calcium balance in the posts I sent. I would like to know if there is any more recent info on benefits of B12 supplementation, because I do see a fairly significant improvement in Joker. My vet has suggested that I switch to steglatro since Joker was having such extreme lethargy on the Metformin. I have continued on the metformin for a bit while I sort out starting the steglatro. Since Joker has been so lethargic when on the Metformin, I looked up more possible side effects. These were from human medical sources, as there is little documentation on horses. I found that vitamin B12 deficiency is a possibility for some people on Metformin. Joker has been on 12,000mg of Santa Cruz B12 pellets since Thursday. I have seen an improvement in his energy and he seems to be gaining back some of his usual personality.
I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the extreme lethargy from metformin and if you have tried vitamin B12 supplementation.
