Just pay attention to his manure output and consistency. Get a sterile container from your vet and run a urinalysis and culture.

The first step to wisdom is "I don't know."
Hi Dr Kellon, last night Vinnie had a very strange episode. I arrived to him eating quite happily and went about my normal chores. I noticed again that there was quite a bit of urine output, from the damp shavings. All of a sudden He became restless and his respiration went thru the roof, and he broke a sweat clearly in some sort of pain.He was dropped at this point like he wants to urinate. I wasn't sure if this was gas or?? So I texted my vet. Not febrile. We decided to give antispaz and banamine. He urinated after about 3 to 5 mins and then he was fine. I presume this could have been a stone but that will.be next on the list to investigate.
He urinated a couple more times while I was there and I managed to get a quick free catch by putting a urine strip in the stream.

Any thoughts on what should be my next steps?
Thanks Nan

I would wait until the end of December or even January to retest him although if he was normal in October he likely will be then too. Consider doing a TRH stimulation instead and decide on pergolide dose from that.

The first step to wisdom is "I don't know."
Hi Dr Kellon,
I have been pondering if Vinnie needs a pergolide increase because of the amount of water he is drinking and his urine output, or if this is just expected with Invokana?
He is drinking at least 20 gallons of water a day in buckets that I hang in his stall, and then he has a refilling 25 gallon trough that is cleaned weekly that he also drinks from.
His urine output is pretty significant, I clean his stall twice day pulling out wet shavings and that is in addition to the barns stall cleaning once per day. He also urinates in his paddock a couple times a day.
His ACTH was well controlled in late Oct and we did a Chem panel in Aug and all looked normal with kidney and liver function.
I plan on redoing labs in the next week or two, aiming for either next week or first week of December.
The only other symptom of PPID is his crazy coat growth and he may be running warmer than he has in past years.
Temperatures have been in the mid 60's during the day and into the mid 30's to low 40's at night, in reference to water consumption. He is getting two big palmfuls of iodized salt, plus whatever sodium is in Glycocemic eq (2 scoops).
Please let me know what you think?
Thanks Nan
