Sentinel Care Carb-Guard
I used this feed for years for my mare that has passed away. Back then it was Blue Seal Carb Guard. Never had a problem and she was both IR and Cushings. I would use it now if I could find a dealer near me. I use Seminole Perform Safe which I have had tested and it averages 11% sugar/starch but I dont use much in their beet pulp.

Hi Heidi. Have you read through this information? https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/files/6%20Diet%20Balancing/Nutritional%20Needs%20for%20Insulin%20Resistant.pdf
Here is a list of approved feeds. these companies test each batch of bagged feed to ensure less than 10% ESC/starch combined and low fat: https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/files/5%20Core%20Diet/2.%20Safe%20Feeds/Safe%20Bagged%20Feeds.pdf also https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/files/5%20Core%20Diet Has the hay been analyzed? If yes, you can send the results to one of our balancers who can help you. -- https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/files/6%20Diet%20Balancing/HAY%20BALANCING-1.pdf I get so upset to hear when boarding facilities won't feed what the horse needs, especially when it is a medical condition that requires certain feed. I know it is time consuming for the staff to prepare hay/feeds. You could discuss with the barn manager what they can and can't do, what pieces you could do for prep and how to compensate them for the additional time needed to feed your horse. You are overwelmed because this information is all new to you, you are swimming against a current of mainstream opinion and you don't know enough yet to defend your new understanding. We have all been there. Get your diet straightened out and it should all fall into place. Hang in there.... Unless you've independently tested that feed I wouldn't trust those numbers. However, it's not IR suitable just based on fat content alone.

Heidi, To properly balance Remy’s diet, you need a lot more information. Is he still on Thyroid-L and Equiox? These are not recommended, and both need to be slowly removed. As far as a “cheat sheet”, Its not that easy, I recommend taking Dr. Kellon’s NRC Plus course, which will teach you the daily nutritional requirements. Does anyone have experience with Sentinel Carb-Guard?

They feed Sentinel products and it would be 'easy' to incorporate Carb-Guard feed. But I'm not entirely convinced. Thoughts? Is there a 'list' or 'cheat sheet' of daily nutritional requirements for IR horses? What solutions have others who board found? Right now I'm using Mad Barn Amino Trace+ and am having to add several things to balance it out with the hay. Is there an easier way, or is continuing the AT+ with supplements the best way forward? I'm not sure why I'm feeling so overwhelmed by all of this and I appreciate everyone's help. -- ~ Heidi October 2021, New Hampshire Remy Case History: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Heidi%20and%20Remy |
