Annual Giving
If you have a horse that has been helped by ECIR, please take a few minutes to read on.
ECIR was founded with the goal of disseminating accurate information regarding metabolic disease in horses. Originally, the focus was on PPID but it soon became apparent that hyperinsulinemic conditions, now referred to as EMS, can exist separate from PPID. In addition to sharing the best scientific information, we have always paid careful attention to the details of each and every horse, pony, donkey and mule, helping caretakers interpret what they found and saw within the framework of current knowledge and also used the patterns we saw emerging to keep our members ahead of the curve. As a result, many things now widely accepted were actually first recognized here, such as:
This past year we have seen significant progress in learning how to use cabergoline for PPID horses that do not respond well to pergolide and canagliflozin in horses with refractory insulin elevations. We continued our professional publications with an article on canagliflozin (Invokana) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9473365/ and have another on high triglycerides complicating that treatment submitted and under review. The www.ecirhorse.org web site has been recently updated and we now have three educational films https://www.ecirhorse.org/video.php in addition to the text. Our first virtual conference was a huge success, as was the availability of videos of each presentation. As always, our Proceedings are available free of charge on www.ecirhorse.org as well as the International Veterinary Information Service at www.ivis.org. We have undertaken the monumental task of designing and building a new case history form, which will soon be finalized. It is designed to allow access from almost all devices and will allow easier retrieval of information for researchers. Everyone working to keep ECIR alive and flourishing is, and always has been, an unpaid volunteer -- but we need funds to carry these efforts forward. Our members have been generous with their support over the years and we deeply appreciate it. We thank each of you for your support in this campaign and throughout the year. We are pleased to announce that a generous anonymous supporter will match your donation from now until the end of the year, with a special focus dedicated to research funding. Every $25 you donate will turn into a $50 donation. Every $100 will turn into a $200 donation. Here are two links to help you learn all about your donation through Mightycause, a respected donor-advised 501(c)3, which allows for safe, worry-free donations via credit card or Paypal. You can donate one-time or as a recurring monthly donor.
