Falki - New Blood Work - Insulin Only

Connie Proceviat

Hi All,

I decided to test Falki's insulin because after an extended cold period for over a week with daytime highs not getting above -20C and cold winds, I could see he wasn't walking around as much. His insulin came back at 809 (lab reference <300). In Sept it was 516 and June >1435. He's still on metformin, J Herb and Alcar as well as balanced minerals and low s/s hay. I've also been providing extra layers of blankets along with socks, boots and wraps. He's doing much better than the last couple of winters for sure and seems much brighter in general. I've noticed his chronic tearing right eye is tearing a lot less so thinking perhaps his insulin (although very high) has been higher in past winters. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Connie. I went through your case history and I don't see any updates for 2022...I see you added some info to your question....I don't see the metformin dosing on your case history...do you have that information? How long has he been on metformin? How long for the J-herb and the Alcar and what is the dosing? What month was his insulin 809 and what was the temp on that day?

Its good that you are treating him with warmth on his legs, hooves and body...that will help if he has any vasospasms affecting circulation to his feet.

What is his current diet? Do you have the hay analysis that you could post ( that he is currently eating?)

Thanks.;

No surprise his insulin would be up under those conditions. I'm glad he's handling it better. Are you doing Jiaogulan twice a day and checking gum/tongue color? You can also get L-arginine powder (5 to 8 grams twice a day)  or AAKG powder (1 to 3  grams twice a day) on Amazon  Canada.

Hi Trisha,

In response to your questions...

Metformin - 24 tablets (total 12 grams) / 2xday since August 6, 2022.
JHerb - 3 Tablespoons / 2xday (until gums were more pink) since Nov 13, 2022.
AlCar - 3 Tablespoons (total approx. 10 grams) / 2xday since Nov 13, 2022.

Date of last blood draw for insulin Dec 20, 2022 and temperature was -22C.

He's eating analyzed low s/s hay, custom minerals from Mad Barn, vit e, salt, daily ground flax with balance cubes carrier.

Thanks to Heather Davis's recommendation, I've increased his layers of warm clothing when needed.

Kind Regards,

Hi Dr. Kellon,

Dosing JHerb @3 Tablespoons / 2xday (until gums and tongue more pink) since Nov 13, 2022.

Our family is moving this weekend so I've practiced loading him onto the trailer a couple times this week in preparation. It's warmed up to -9C high and -16C low and I'm happy to report he's handled it well.

I will look into L-arginine or AAKG.

Thank you,
