It depends on the horse ..but I tend to do the regimen twice /year on ones in work

My 22 yo Appendix gelding is PPID and on 2mg Prasend. He has been on Adequan for 2 years now without any problems as far as I can see and has helped tremendously, particularly since I can't give him Bute or Previcox due to immediate onset of ulcer symptoms. |

are u saying you do the 7doses— every 4 days-, at 3 month intervals instead of 6 months?

With our sweet mare Salina I found that doing the 7-day regimen every third month worked the best for her. The initial course followed by a monthly injection did not work at all. It seems to have been a common thing to do the “loading dose” and then go monthly but I think that may have been more for budget than effectiveness. I haven’t looked at the label in years but at that time the company’s directions indicated it was meant to be given daily for 7 days at intervals established by vet and owner for best outcome.
First vet steered me to one loading dose and then monthly, new vet said no, do the 7-day dosing and repeat as needed through the year. Best, Billie -- Billie Hinton NC Member since 2010 |

Hi LJ, It depends on the horse - every 6 months is the recommendation but some people find it works best if done once every 10 days or once every 2 weeks rather than waiting 6 months and doing a full course of the 7 shots every 4 days.
