Balance Cubes and Magnesium
cris240z@...
If the Triple Crown Timothy Balance Cubes have 0.50%min Calcium and 0.30% min Magnesium, Do I need to add more Magnesium to my IR PPID Pony's diet?
When I switched him over to the Balance Cubes as his complete feed, I stopped with the Magnesium supplementing because I was under the impression that it was balanced already. But I recently started wondering if he is getting enough of the Magnesium. I find the mineral percentages and such a bit confusing sometimes. Foster is about 450 lbs. Thanks in advance for helping me figure this out. -- Cris Bliss California 2018 |

Cris,
I read the balance between the 2 minerals should be 2.5:1 to 3:1 Calcium to magnesium. So the cubes sound correct -- Lesley Bludworth Phoenix, AZ 7/2022 Sophie TWH mare https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/SophieB%20Case%20History https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=277749 |

Hi Cris,
If the TC Timothy Balance Cubes are Foster's entire diet, then all you need to add are salt, ground flax and vit E. Adding anything else will unbalance the cubes, as they are mineral balanced to themselves. -- Lavinia, George Too, Calvin (PPID) and Dinky (PPID/IR) Nappi, George and Dante Over the Bridge Jan 05, RI Moderator ECIR |

I read the balance between the 2 minerals should be 2.5:1 to 3:1As Lavinia stated the Balance Cubes are balanced by Dr Kellon, so you don't need to add more magnesium. The actual recommendation for ratio from Dr. Kellon are Calcium:Magnesium 2:1. In instances where the blood levels of magnesium are low, recommendations for even tighter ratios have been made. For most horses on the complete diet of Balance Cubes you are fine the way they come. Dr Kellon's courses are an extraordinary learning experience to understand what these recs are, why these recs are made, and how to do balancing yourself. www.drkellon.com -- Nancy C in NH ECIR Moderator 2003 ECIR Group Inc. We do know the cubes are correct.
But what would be helpful to know, when we report reading or hearing something somewhere, is the source of the info. To my mind, that's helpful in sorting out truth from fiction/typos from what was meant, etc., etc. and so fifth. -- Lorna in Eastern Ontario 2002 |
