Devils Claw Plus IR/PPID
Diana RL
Hi,
I just wanted to confirm the Uckele Devil's Claw Plus pellets are ok for PPID/IR horses (one is on Invokana, both on Prascend). Thanks. -- Diana and Scooter Jan 2019 PA https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Scooter%20-%20Case%20History https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=283361 |

Diana,
No, they're not because of the Yucca. Use either Phyto-Quench pellets or Hemp Joint to get the Devil's Claw (no Hemp Joint for PPID). -- Eleanor in PA www.drkellon.com BOGO 2 for 1 Course Sale Through End of January |

Thanks so much for the clarification. Phyto-quench it is. On Tue, Feb 7, 2023, 11:22 AM Eleanor Kellon, VMD <drkellon@...> wrote: Diana, |

Or use straight DC powder from Herbalcom.com, 1 Tbs for a 450-500kg horse.

Is it safe to use Phyto-Quench with Laminox for a mini who is PPID/IR and is on Prascend/metformin and Pentosan. I was thinking that the Phyto-Quench could help with inflammation - she often has some fluid accumulation over her stifles and she needs to keep exercising to help IR control.

Yes, that's fine.

Why no Hemp Joint for PPID?

CBD and possibly other cannabinoids can bind to the dopamine receptors so would compete with pergolide.

TERRI JENNINGS
Awhile back I was reading about PEA and the Endocannabinoid system. Does PEA cause a problem with Prascend?

PEA can increase dopamine levels but it is not a mimetic of dopamine like pergolide is. In other words, it does not bind to dopamine receptors so won't interfere with pergolide. It also won't help because the remaining dopaminergic neurons in PPID are exhausted and cannot produce dopamine. After being on pergolide for a while they recover but there is no evidence the horse then has an excess of dopamine.

Susan...I have read that DC has a no odor but has a bitter taste. How do you feed yours and has the taste been a problem?
Thanks so much. -- Sandy March 2017, Onalaska, WA, USA Case History: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Sandy%20and%20Andy . |

Susan...me again. How did you arrive at the dosage of the powdered Devils Claw?
