Digestible Energy of soaked hay
Lesley Bludworth
When feeding soaked hay, do i increase the amount/lbs of hay fed to compensate for the loss of calories that is rinsed away?
It looks like the digestible energy is reduced by about 22% in the soaked hay. -- Lesley Bludworth Phoenix, AZ 7/2022 Sophie TWH mare https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/SophieB%20Case%20History https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=277749 |

HI Lesley.
From Dr Kellon's message in the archives https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/message/163019 Soaking lowers the DE (digestible energy) of the hay and you need to use DE values for sampled soaked hay to determine how much to feed. Inadequate protein will limit muscle mass even if calories are adequate. -- Nancy C in NH ECIR Moderator 2003 ECIR Group Inc.
