Encouraging Note - Relevante

Lynn

I hesitated to share this. It may not be appropriate so I apologize if this is out of line...but it seems like there are a lot of new people and I share this to say my boy's recovery is completely due to following the protocols ECIR has established...I hope it is an encouragement.

A week ago, a friend of mine and I went for a trail ride (these are private trails). We decided to cross the creek and go to an area we like.  It soon became apparent that that side of the creek was abuzz with activity. A man told us someone had shot a deer and the body was lost in a sea of Golden Rod. They were waiting for search dogs.  We rode a bit further then decided it would be prudent to head back across the creek. We passed a large tractor running a combine, a bobcat backing up but when we came to a turkey blind my friend’s horse spooked. That was the last straw for Relevante. He performed a spin worthy of a reining horse and raced back down the trail. I lost my stirrups and reins. Clinging to his back like a monkey it occurred to me he was running flat out with no discomfort, no break in stride, no stiffness, hesitation or other issues. I was able to grab the rein finally for a one rein emergency stop and we did make it back to the barn in one piece.  He has suffered no repercussions since.  I rejoice in my heart that this 24-year-old PPID, IR horse that recovered from laminitis was able to race the wind…just prefer not to be along for the ride next time.

Lynn - as the owner of a foundered horse who is just starting on our journey, this is encouraging to me. I am so glad to hear that your boy is doing so well 💙

Lynn, I'm sure it will never be out of line here to share wonderful stories of recovery, especially like Relevante's ......and therefore  yours .
Well done.

Glad both of you are okay. Once I knew you were not injured I laughed so hard I cried. Cried for the joy of recovery and laughed at the realization Relavante was back to normal. I ride reiners and cow horses and it is a fast moving pace for all maneuvers. Imagine doing 3.5 of those spins at one time.  Even though my Chicy will never compete again I do look forward to the day I can ride her again. She feels like home to me.  Bravo. 👏👏👏

Ahh Lynn
Glad your ok, but you go R boy!
We can always use these happy stories! We focus so much on the tough times, it’s beautiful to hear he’s doing so well.
I know how much time you’ve dedicated to Relevante, he’s lucky to have such an amazing mom.
Great job to you both 😊

Congratulations, Lynn. You and Relevante are an inspiration to all those who are struggling.

Kudos to you for being able to stick with him. Although I'd also rather pass entirely on incidents like that one, gotta say, I'd rather be clinging like a monkey than sitting on the ground watching his hindquarters disappearing in a cloud of dust...

I have laughed and cried over all your comments. I think I received the bigger dose of encouragement today. We all know how hard it is to manage these horses but to all who struggle there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
