Checking to see if there is anything in this product (meant for joint pain) that would not be good for PPID/IR horses. Main ingredient is Resverasyn and Sodium Hyaluronate. Even inactive ingredients appear to be safe.

I used to use this for my gelding, it was before I balanced their diets and had a hard time getting him to eat it. I may still even have some, maybe I’ll dig it out and try it again.

I had to look very closely at the labels...The one I ordered is the Original Joint Pellets. That's the expensive one :)  There is a lower cost one that unless you look closely at the ingredients you don't realize it is a completely different product which includes glucosamine, MSM, etc. (all no-no's.) I looked and looked at reviews (and not reviews from their website) and have found almost a total 5 star rating across the board. Since the Devil's Claw did nothing for us, I am willing to give this a chance.

Got the shipment today and started it. Will let everyone know. I am starting with the suggested loading dose.

It doesn't help he got body clipped today so he is an itchy mess, and he gets his hooves trimmed tomorrow, so it will take awhile to assess.

So...2 weeks into the Equithrive Original Joint Pellets at the loading dose, and the difference is like night and day. I am still finishing up the Move-Ease, but will plan not to order that again, and have stopped Jioagulan so his hooves don't grow as fast. It's hard enough to keep up with every 4 weeks. No Equioxx or other joint meds.

He is moving soundly and quickly. I'm so used to making big wide turns if I have him haltered, and now he is pivoting on his own, and every day that it gets warm, he is asking for a walk.

My vet and farrier were pretty amazed...my farrier said this is the best she has ever seen him.

The one side affect that probably isn't a bad thing is he is eating like crazy. I can only guess that his pain is less and he feels like eating more. I plan to inquire from the company as to whether this is a good conclusion, or that something in the supplement makes him more hungry.

Another positive side affect of Equithrive? When I was doing lots of research on this product, I noticed at least one statement from a horse owner that mentioned after starting Equithrive Original Joint Pellets that her horse's drippy eyes were no longer dripping. I took that with a grain of salt...but low and behold...I can report the same experience. Scotty has had drippy eyes the entire 19 years I have owned him. Even my vet's tech commented on his runny eyes the first time she was here, since she had worked in one of Scotty's boarding barns. No longer. Very little if any weepy eyes, and definitely not running down his face.

Hi Deb,

Were you using the joint formula of Equithrive when you saw an improvement in your horse's eye discharge or another form of Equithrive? I'd be curious to try it for Mill who has the same problem.

Jennifer & Cecile - I think the eye discharge is just a "who knows" situation as to why the joint supplement is affecting that. I wouldn't buy the product for eye conditions only and it isn't marketed for that. I have never used an Equithrive product in the past. The link to the one that is helping Scotty's joints is in my first post above. The website gets a little confusing as there are several products with similar names, but there is a LOT of information in how the product was developed. This is the one with Resverasyn & Hyalouronic Acid. There is a powder form but I chose pellets as they mix in perfectly with his Stabul and he eats them right up.

Martha - I was more than a little apprehensive when I took Scotty down to the maintenance dose on 5/15; been watching with eagle eyes to make sure he wasn't regressing. He's not. I happened to look out the window today as he was taking a stroll around his dry lot and he was moving out strong and solid; not a sign of tiny steps or joint or foot pain and he is turning on a dime. I feel like I've been given a miracle.

I used this product a number of years ago. It did indeed seem to help my mare. But for her, it seemed as if the maintenance dose didn't "maintain" her comfort level.  And it ended up being too expensive for me to continue at the higher dose. But that was just my experience.

There are only two ingredients in this supplement, Resveratrol and hyaluronate. Resveratrol does have some evidence of effectiveness in arthritis and hyaluronate definitely helps at least with acutely painful joints in my experience.  The resveratrol dose in Equithrive is low (should be 2000 mg to match the experimental literature) and hyaluronate is pretty standard for maintenance but IME double or triple that amount has much more obvious results.

Yes Nancy C - That is absolutely correct, which is why I mention the ingredients every time as the containers look very similar. What I am purchasing is not marketed for I/R.

Interesting Dr. Kellon about the reason for help with allergies.

As for me, I am sticking with what I can visually see has taken 10 years off my horse in regards to at liberty motion, talking walks down the road, and just a general complete picture of alertness, no more shifting, and just feeling better. I believe that is what everyone is looking for, and my only reason for sharing my exciting results.

Completely agree that it is lovely when one sees improvement.

Curious if Scotty was on Vitamin E with a fat carrier. I may have missed it but did not see in his case history. Along with Selenium (which as you know is in your ODTB Cubes) Vit E is a powerful anti-oxidant, like the ingredients in EquiThrive.

I'm sure you've thought of this. Just wanted to pull apart confounding factors for other who are following along.

Yes Nancy, Scotty has been on 2,000 iu Natural (in oil capsules) Vitamin E for many years. So sorry I missed including that in my case history, but I have remedied it now. Thanks for pointing it out.
