Hay Equivalencies by weight
I’ve looked at numerous older posts and find different numbers in my search for data so I can create a spreadsheet for 1 pound of hay = x pounds of _____. I want to start with TCTBC, beet pulp, alfalfa pellets, and timothy pellets. All help appreciated as I get more precise while stabilizing Rusty’s weight.
Examples of what confuses me: 20 lbs of hay = 15 lbs of cubes versus 5 lbs of hay = 4 lbs of cubes 2.5 lbs of Beet pulp = 5 lbs of hay versus 1 lb beet pulp = 1.5 lbs of hay. -- Lasell (luh-SELL) ~ Virginia USA ~ September 2022 Fairlane Rusty https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Fairlane%20Rusty%20Case%20History Sam - likely IR, Case History to come |

Lasell,
Because of the great variability in the calorie content of hays, including the hays used to make the cubes, this is really impossible to do accurately. As a starting point, assume 4 lbs of cubes = 5 lbs of hay, and 1 lb beet pulp = 2 lbs hay. Watch the weight, if the horse loses or gains, adjust accordingly. -- Eleanor in PA www.drkellon.com |

Thank you. Is there a way to estimate for timothy pellets and alfalfa pellets?
