Thank you for responding, you know
I was giving her corn oil up until the summer hit. Then I quit because I
was afraid it would make her even hotter, since corn is the hottest
grain....I assume corn oil would have the same effect . Let me ask you..
what made you decide to put your horse on medication ??? Thanks
again..Caire

I read where oils are a "cool" feed. The horse's body doesn't generate any
heat when they digest oils. We feed Strider, a TB, about 1 1/2 cups of oil a
day because it helps keep weight on her and also it makes her feed more
palatable. She's picky but will eat anything with corn oil on it! We use corn
oil because Strider likes it so well. I think others are cheaper and might be
more nutritious but don't want to mess with what works. Good luck with your
mare! Cushings is a frustrating thing but there's lots of information and
experience here!

Good luck!

Just returning to Oil here, for Pandora, my "skinny" mule. Isn't it weird to
have two mules, one fat, one thin with Cushings? Each has such different
symptoms but both are on ThyroL and Cyproheptadine. Had blood draws done on
Tuesday for follow-up, it has been a few years. Will let you know the
results when we get them. The ladies are on their second bottle of liquid
Cypro, so this should be interesting. Also, I did notice the second bottle
was mixed much better than the first, requiring far less shaking of the
bottle when I draw it up to put it in their bran. Anyone else notice the
same thing? Perhaps calling the pharmacy and asking about it helped.

Have a beautiful weekend.
