K has gotten footsore
Hello all and thanks for all you do,
K has become footsore, noticed on 2023 03 09. I have spoken to my hay balancer and she has concurred that reverting to Emergency diet is the best move forward today. I have updated Case history but am having trouble getting my current hay analysis uploaded. K is currently eating Mid 9 which is shown in a multi page file in my CH but I do have a Lower S/S that I will switch to, but no copy of analysis is there yet. I am wondering if it could be a problem with mare seasonal hormones as well. We had been doing so well for over three years of improvements. I will want to know, if she returns to soundness if I can return to work with her immediately or if I have to wait. I have registered her to a riding clinic at the end of this month. -- Kandace K Rocky Mountains, Alberta, Oct 2020 K and J (over the rainbow bridge) and now T https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Kandace%20J%20and%20K https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=259062 |

In the interest of rapid resolution, see if you can arrange for an ovarian ultrasound. If she is completely sound and no changes on radiographs, you can go to your clinic.

Thank you, Dr. Kellon, for this and every single thing you do.
Let me see if I understand your advice. Do hoof radiographs, looking for changes. If none, And horse is completely sound clinic is okay to attend. In the mean time, also get ovarian ultrasound looking for the anovulatry follicles/cysts? If present, but horse is sound, okay to attend clinic. Can I send your email on the follicles seasonal problem to the vet who will be looking at my horse as I do not know if I can adequately explain this over phone to receptionist? -- Kandace K Rocky Mountains, Alberta, Oct 2020 K and J (over the rainbow bridge) and now T https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Kandace%20J%20and%20K https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=259062 |

Hi Kandace,
Yes, you got it right and of course you can send it to your vet. It's not unusual at this time of year for mares to bring up waves of follicles that fail to ovulate but in the IR mares they can persist. -- Eleanor in PA www.drkellon.com |
