New Case History Site -- UPDATE New Year's Eve
Dear Members
As we get ready to turn the page on a new year, I wanted to give you a brief update on the progress of the new Case History site. As they fill out their histories, Early Adopter volunteers are finding ways to help folks who will follow them. So far so good. If you are an Early Adopter who has not yet gotten on board, we look forward to seeing you! Opening the site to all members will probably take place after January 15th. We expect that both the old (groups.io CH subgroup) and new site (housed on ecirhorse.org) will run concurrently for a period of time. Eventually, and with plenty of warning, all new histories and updates will be reported on the new site exclusively. The old groups.io site will be configured as READ ONLY so one can refer back, but not upload there. Through the use of the Case History process, the ECIR Group has had the honor of observing long-term, the largest population of metabolic horses. I’ve had the opportunity to watch the CH project progress from Robin’s first iteration, to Patti’s next .pdf document when our freebie hosting site was terminated, through Yahoo and groups.io, and through many changes and overhauls by the Support Team, vets and research participants. Drs Kellon, Clougher, Gustafson, and Lavinia and the Support Team volunteers were incredibly significant in developing this new site. I learned yesterday the Case History site has over 20,000 lines of actual code. I am pretty sure that is a lot. There are several hundred hours of work from coders, testers and Support Team who are also involved. There have always been three goals: (1) Give caregivers a streamlined process to submit data on different devices and browsers. (2) Give volunteers one place to review in depth (3) Allow us to better quantify who our population is, and what they bring to the discussion of the treatment of equine metabolic issues. With the ability to get a more immediate, quantifiable view of ECIR data, my goal strictly as a horse owner, is to help bring clarity to the equine community for the benefit of metabolic equines. I have these conversations with myself and my horses, usually as I muck out. What questions would you add? Who is our population? What are our general locations? Breeds? Sex? Average or median age of diagnosis? Age achieved after diagnosis? Most typical symptoms beyond laminitis? Breeds and individuals with PPID but no EMS? What was the measure of change in insulin from diet alone? How many avoided laminitis? How many reversed laminitis? Who needed medication to resolve high insulin? What are the levels of pergolide dose? How many increase for season rise and to what level? How many use compound vs FDA medications? How many mares with ovarian issues? How many with Lyme disease? What were medication side effects? What was their resolution? There is much more to consider and I hope many more areas will reveal themselves to us as we move forward. The work continues. We are in the final hours of our fund drive. Since Giving Tuesday we have raised $11826, with grateful thanks to the many of you who have already donated. Every dollar received will be matched and put towards research endeavors in 2023 and beyond. Please think of ECIR Group as you contemplate your final donations. It is easy to donate via our trusted donor advised fund, Mighty Cause. Many thanks for everything each of you does for this group in the support of your equines. All the best for your New Year. -- Nancy C in NH ECIR Moderator 2003 ECIR Group Inc. President 2021-2022 ECIR Group NEW Case History site open to Early Adopters.

Thank you Jerry.
That is really your call. If you are having significant issues currently or have input/help needed, I would not wait but get started on the groups io CH subgroup. Eventually everyone will be doing updates and/or new equines on the new site, but referrals back to groups io subgroup will be needed for some time to come. May I also pretty please ask you to create your auto-signature by going here. Scroll down to signature. We request your name, general location and year of joining the group. Don't forget to hit save. -- Nancy C in NH ECIR Moderator 2003 ECIR Group Inc. President 2021-2022 ECIR Group NEW Case History site open to Early Adopters.

Kay, do you have an ECIR folder? If so, you'll want to be aware of these changes that are coming in January. Just a thought. Is there some way to make entering a horse's history info easier? I am not good with computers and I have avoided entering my horse's history for this reason.

Hi Renee
This is the no. 1 goal of the new CH site, as detailed in Nancy's post below. We are all looking forward to a more streamlined process! -- Maxine and Indy (PPID) and Dangles (PPID) Canberra, Australia 2010 https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Maxine%20and%20Indy%20and%20Dangles

May I add to the wish list for the new case history format.
Members: A line where a member can resign from the group or if deceased where a family member can do that. Equines: Ditto for this, date and reason for death or when member no longer has ownership/control. "Who is our population?" Perhaps better answered by "Who is not" all commercial operations who must make a profit to stay in business. Breeds: Expand this section to include a pedigree if known so that a possible genetic influence can be determined. Location: Gosh Wouln't a map be nice, global with a point for each case history. I am so curious if there are differences in the ATCH seasonal rise in relationship to the proximity of the equator. I assume that that there is some form of data collection such as excell where all the data can be arranged in any sort of manner. WISHING ALL OF US A PROSPEROUS AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR. -- - Frances C. Hi Renee
Humans have several different learning styles. We are striving to do our best to address them. We are still on the interent though, and you will need to learn the program, just like any program. The basic streamlining to start is: a new site that allows you to house and work on your history without negotiating groups.io, a pdf or word doc or pages doc, etc. You can work on the section you want, when you want, save it, return to it without the need for finding and recovering your old history, then find a new, clean document to update, filling it out and uploading, deleting the old one, etc, etc. For easiest access, you will need to know how to book mark the link to the site, but that will also eventually be listed here in the Wiki. Remarks thus far from self-admitted non-techies have been favorable. -- Nancy C in NH ECIR Moderator 2003 ECIR Group Inc. President 2021-2022 ECIR Group NEW Case History site open to Early Adopters.

Hi Frances
Most of this has been addressed in one form or another. Our esteemed Research Director is in charge of the aggregate data. See Dr. Gustafson's year-end message here. -- Nancy C in NH ECIR Moderator 2003 ECIR Group Inc. President 2021-2022 ECIR Group NEW Case History site open to Early Adopters.
