locked vet change in process

from vet
”--mary forwarded me the fax and it's a different base pharmacy than the last time.
I am busy with appointmens and cannot call it in at the moment.
In the future please give us 24-48 hours to fill your prescription. I am frequently off or unavailable throughout the day. Please plan accordingly.
In addition, I do not recommend using pharmacies without proper certification, which this pharmacy does not have. I also do not recommend giving compounded pergolide. I must state this in writing in case this medication is fraudulent and causes harm to your horse. “

I asked for this prescription first thing in the morning. And I did not get it done until the next day.
This is the second time she sent me that warning alert. And I’ve simply had enough

Another doctor in her practice who now is retired, always gave a years worth of refills like every other doctor does. She gave to 60 day prescriptions and I thought the last one was a years worth of refills so poor majestic could’ve been without meds .but of course I know how to strategize.

It seems like the pharmacy called the doctor on call to get the refill. I didn’t ask for that. Do I care? Nope

That’s frustrating LJ,
My young vet is pretty good about things but they’re swamped so I always have to call and remind her a couple times. That reminds me I haven’t gotten Maggie’s refill. Hope you are able to get it sorted out.

LJ,
I've worked at the same animal hospital for the past 22 years. We have 10 vets, 2 offices, a large animal facility, perform surgeries and rehabilitation, groom, board and accept referrals from other clinics. In the past 2 weeks we've had 4 people out with Covid (2 doctors), 3 quit (2 without notice), and 1 to 2 doctors out a week either at conferences or on vacation. Add in the multiple emergencies (often up to 10 a day plus overnight) to an already full schedule and you get a picture of a typical day at a vet practice.

It is not unreasonable for your vet to request at least 24 hours notice for prescription refills. This allows them to focus on the immediate needs of the patients in front of them and address prescriptions as time allows in between appointments.
Vets everywhere are struggling with staffing and other issues, trying to do the best they can. It was nice of your pharmacy to reach out to the vet about your prescription. If you're not satisfied with the service that you'd been receiving, then perhaps you will be happier with another facility.

thanks for the reply. The only issue with Avrio., Is they didn’t have my prescription on the auto faxing where  10 days before the prescription expired they would fax the vet. If they had done that ,we would not have this issue. I told them to put me on that system but they didn’t. Now they have, so things will probably get better

Why are you responding to Vets  being busy? You should be responding to her statement that this medication is fraudulent and dangerous to horses.

LJ,

You're actually both right. Requesting 24 hours to get to a prescription refill with the current shortage of large animal veterinarians, not to mention busiest season, is not unreasonable.

As for Avrio, the vet was wrong. They are licensed and also accredited https://www.achc.org/find-a-provider/ .

I've been asked to explain why this topic is locked and will remain so.

As Dr Kellon has pointed out both LJ and Jennifer are correct on the facts of the situation.

LJ, your last comment was rude. ECIR is not "social media" and does not tolerate social media level comment wars.

Topic now closed.

To elaborate on Nancy's post, this is a site for the professional and respectful exchange of information and support for owners of horses with PPID and EMS. Period. We understand that frustrations come up in trying to care for these horses (to put it mildly!) but solutions don't come from venting, bashing, challenging or just being rude. They come from questions. If you have an unpleasant or frustrating experience and want to "alert" the membership so to speak, please do so with the solution - or ask for suggestions on one. Keep it positive please.
