winter does metformin

Hi!
This is a question for people who live in colder climates where there is snow on the ground the majority of the winter and no grass available. If your horse/pony is on metformin due to IR do you reduce it during the snowy months? and if so, but how much.
Thanks!

Nikkibob, you would normally not reduce the metformin. At doses under the recommended 30mg/kg of bodyweight twice daily, it may not be effective.

https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/files/4%20Insulin%20Resistance/Metformin/Metformin%2008.08.20%20FINAL.pdf   Hi - did a quick search for you in our files- there is more to read in this section besides what I copied and pasted for you....Metformin is very specifically dosed according to weight...unless the horses weight has changed, you would not change the dose.  Malfunctioning insulin is a year round problem. Eventually, metformin might not be as effective...did you get follow up testing to see how its working? --
